Anita Matt was born in St. Ignatius and graduated from Mission High School. She earned one of the first bachelors of science offered at Salish Kootenai College in Environmental/Agriculture. Anita worked in the Tribes Natural Resource Department and water administration before joining the Tribal Lands Department where she worked for nearly 30 years. She worked in land acquisitions and with the USDA.
Sen. Jon Tester appointed Anita in 2015 to the USDA Farm Service Agency State Committee in Montana. She is also president of the Rocky Mountain Intertribal Agriculture Council. Her two grown children also live on the reservation. She resides on a ranch in Moiese that she co-manages with her husband.
