TITLE:                    Forestry Aide I (fire/fuels) / Aide II (fire/fuels)

                                      1 or more contract positions

 

LOCATION:                     Forestry-Division of Fire

 

SALARY:                         $9.33-$10.73/$10.21-$11.74 per hour

                                     

CLOSING DATE:               Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy.

The successful applicant, if not already employed by the Tribes must pass a pre-hire drug test and serve a mandatory six (6) month probationary period.

 

DUTIES:

 

  • Receives required training, performs simple tasks, performs assignments as a crew member in developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology.
  • Duties may include assisting in fire suppression, prescribed fires, or fuels treatments. Moves dirt, chops brush, fells small trees to construct containment lines during wildland fire suppression and/or prescribed fire burning.
  • Trained in techniques on how to search out and extinguishes burning materials using dirt, applying water by hose or backpack pump, etc.
  • Patrols containment lines with supervision on how to locate and extinguish sparks, flare-ups and hot spots that may threaten loss of control of the fire or prescribed fire.
  • May assist other trained personnel in more specialized assignments such as backfire and burnout, mobile and stationary engine attack, construction of helispots, helitack operations and longline hookups.
  • Receives training in the use of shovel, axe, pulaski, McLeod, chain saw, and other hand tools used in fire suppression, prescribed fire, and fuels treatments.
  • Participates in safety training techniques, practices, methods of fire suppression, prescribed fire, safety, efficient operation and use of tools, equipment, and vehicles used in fire/fuels activities. Participates in crew proficiency checks and drills. Participates in safety sessions and fire/fuels critiques. Ensures of own and others welfare and safety in all aspects of fire and project work.
  • Receives training in prescribed fire use (to include familiarization with ignition equipment and supplies) and performs as an ignition and holding crew person.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION):

FORESTRY AIDE I:

  • A high school diploma (or equivalent). If hired before June 30th a high school diploma is not required but must be obtained by June 30th of current year to maintain current position.
  • Three (3) months of general work experience, which can be any work experience.
  • Qualification as a FFT2 (Basic Firefighter) is not required for initial hire, but must be obtained within 4 weeks of hire for the Aide I.
  • Possession of a valid State of Montana driver’s license and meet the requirements of the BIA Motor Vehicle Operation Policy, is preferred but not required for employment.
  • Must successfully complete the Basic Firefighter Training Course (FFT2) within the first 4 weeks of hire.
  • After initial hiring incumbent must continuously meet the requirements for Interagency Qualification Carding System (IQCS) rating of Basic Firefighter (FFT2).
  • After initial hire incumbent must meet and maintain the Interagency Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty, wildland firefighting.
  • Must attain and maintain the prerequisite physical stamina and strength needed to perform rigorous duties and must pass the Work Capacity Test at the arduous level annually.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Tribal Drug and Alcohol Policy and is subject to pre-hire and random drug testing requirements.

FORESTRY AIDE II:

  • A high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • At a minimum for Aide II, 6 months fire/fuels related work OR at least one year of education above the high school level in a fire/fuels related field.
  • Required Qualification: FFT2 (Basic Firefighter).
  • Must have successful completion of: IS-700 (NIMS –An Introduction); annual RT-130 (Standards for Survival refresher); Work capacity Test (WCT) Arduous.
  • Possession of a valid State of Montana driver’s license and meet the requirements of the BIA Motor Vehicle Operation Policy, is preferred but not required for employment.
  • Incumbent must continuously meet the requirements for Interagency Qualification Carding System (IQCS) rating of Basic Firefighter (FFT2).
  • Must meet the Interagency Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty, wildland firefighting.
  • Must attain and maintain the prerequisite physical stamina and strength needed to perform rigorous duties and must pass the Work Capacity Test at the arduous level annually.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS (AS DETERMINED BY THE INTERVIEW):

  • Request position description for a detailed description of desirable qualifications.

  3. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if other than CSKT.
