RON TRAHAN

Ron Trahan grew up in St. Ignatius. His father Lyman Luke Trahan served as chairman in 1966.

Ron Trahan served in the US Army from 1967-1969. Trahan was deployed to South Korea to help guard missile sites during the USS Pueblo incident. After serving, he returned the St. Ignatius and work odd jobs in the woods before landing work installing septic systems and wells for tribal health services for eight years. He spent a year at Kicking Horse Job Corps and took a job with the Salish and Kootenai Housing Authority. After 15 years, he successfully ran for Council.

He was elected to Council in 2000-2008, 2012-2020. Ron is married with five children and 12 grandchildren.  He’s a former rodeo competitor and still takes care of horses in his spare time. He drums with a Salish group Yamncut and travels to various powwows during the warmer months.
