TITLE:                            Irrigation Engineer I

SALARY:                        Salary negotiable dependent on experience

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This is not a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy. The successful applicant, if not already employed by the Tribes must pass a pre-hire drug test and serve a mandatory six (6) month probationary period.

The Irrigation - Engineer I position is a full-time position responsible for providing project management, engineering and construction engineering services and assistance to the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes Irrigation Infrastructure Program.

Job Duties

• Schedules and directs overall guidance in the collection of irrigation infrastructure data including foundation investigations and topographic survey data;
• Assist with legal land surveys and negotiations with landowners to obtain right-of-way for irrigation construction projects;
• Assist with the preparation and procurement of the necessary permits for Irrigation Infrastructure Projects, including providing data and information for CEER Checklists, Environmental Assessments and generally assisting with the NEPA process;
• Perform designs for irrigation infrastructure projects including flow measurement structures, open channel canals, ditches, siphons, pipelines, turnouts, and diversions;
• Prepare plans, specifications and construction cost estimates for Irrigation Infrastructure projects;
• Assist with the administration of irrigation infrastructure design and construction contracts;
• Lead person for the Irrigation Infrastructure Program design computer software, such as Auto CAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, Arc-Collector, and other computer programs used in the engineering and construction industries;
• Review and make recommendations for approval or rejection of construction shop drawings;
• Track and evaluate on-going irrigation construction activities with proposed construction schedules;
• Performs project management duties including budget preparation and tracking of subsequent expenditures;
• Assist Irrigation Infrastructure Program Manager with annual planning of activities;
• Adhere to and execute all Tribal and Federal procurement policies;
• Utilizes conventional surveying and Global Position System (GPS) equipment for irrigation infrastructure program data collection;
• Perform other duties as

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION)

At a minimum, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydro-geology, or other related Engineering degree from an accredited Engineering College with emphasis in one or more of the following areas: construction engineering, construction project management, irrigation infrastructure design, hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnical engineering, and design of irrigation infrastructure.

Must possess an Engineer Intern (EI) license or ability to acquire in 6 months. A Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred. 

Must maintain a current and valid Montana Driver’s License during employment.  Must wear Tribal provided safety apparel as required.

4. Completed background supplemental questionnaire.
5. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if other than CSKT.
