TITLE:                            DFWRC Game Warden I/II

                                                                         

LOCATION:                    Natural Resources Department – Polson, MT

                                      Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation & Conservation (DFWRC)

 

SALARY:                        $21.37 to $24.56 per hour (Warden I - DOE)

                                      $23.40 to $26.90 per hour (Warden II - DOE)

                                                                                                                            

CLOSING DATE:             Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy. The successful applicant if not already employed by the Tribes must pass a pre-hire drug test and will be required to serve a mandatory six-month probationary period.  This position consists of full working level enforcement activity involving enforcement of Fish & Wildlife laws, and other natural resources related laws. Area of Patrol will include the Flathead Indian Reservation and aboriginal areas off the Reservation.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Performs investigative duties associated with Tribal & State violations.
  • Patrols areas as assigned.
  • Maintains surveillance of patrol areas to ascertain if violations have occurred and citing persons appropriately.
  • Checks for recreation permits, determining if violations have occurred and citing persons appropriately.
  • Assures users of areas are informed of any special restrictions, by posting signs and making public contacts.
  • Maintains monthly patrol records, and submits to the Sergeant monthly. 
  • Submits reports for the Courts, through the Sergeant, of all violations and significant incidents.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance and cost records.
  • Aides prosecutor and Court in investigating and prosecuting violations. 
  • Provides assistance to other Programs, Departments and Agencies regarding resource management.
  • Traps and handles wild animals, including transportation to unpopulated areas within the Reservation.
  • Assist with creel studies, fish planting, patrolling of important habitat areas.
  • Cooperates with and assists other law enforcement agencies.
  • Performs Search & Rescue activities as needed, both water and mountain rescue.
  • This position is a drug testing designated position.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION)

 

WARDEN I:

  • Completion of basic Police Academy Training within one (1) year of starting date.
  • Applicant must be able to effectively participate as a member of the Tribal Search & Rescue initial response team, and may have supervision duties during these operations.
  • Required to have an annual doctor’s physical examination and a signed doctor’s statement that the incumbent can perform all the physical tasks listed on respective position description.
  • Must pass and maintain department physical fitness test annually, possess working knowledge of wilderness medicine, skills in water, backcountry, and vehicle rescue methods.
  • Required to attend and complete training at annual Fish & Wildlife species identification workshop.
  • Must possess a valid Montana driver's license at the time of employment.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain a CPR/First Aid certification within 3 months.
  • Must pass a pre-hire drug test.
  • Must not have any Felony convictions.

 

WARDEN II:

  • All minimum qualifications for Warden I position.
  • Will provide limited instructions to less experienced officers, in the absence of the Sergeant, and may act as coordinator on Search & Rescue missions.
  • Certified P.O.S.T. Police Academy Training and other police training as prescribed by the Department.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Law Enforcement experience.

  1. Copies of relevant academic transcripts and training certificates.
  2. Copy of a valid Montana driver’s license.
  3. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if other than CSKT.
  4. If you are claiming Veterans Preference, a copy of the DD214 must be submitted with the application.
