TITLE:                             Hydrologic Technician/Hydrographer I (1 or more positions)

                                     

LOCATION:                     Natural Resources Department

                                      DEWR - Water Resources - Ronan, MT

         

SALARY:                         $19.86 to $22.83 per hour

                                     

CLOSING DATE:             Thursday - May 23rd, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This is not a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy. The successful applicant, if not already employed by the Tribes, must pass a pre-hire drug test and serve a mandatory six (6) month probationary period.

 

The Hydrologic Technician/Hydrographer I is a full-time technical-level position responsible for the collection, verification, and primary reduction of hydrologic data in support of Water Resources Program and professional staff activities.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Collects stream discharge measurements using flow meters, hydraulic structures, and other hydrologic measurement devices by wading across streams, rivers, and canals on a monthly or more frequent basis, often at remote locations and often in adverse weather conditions.
  • Collects groundwater information at observation wells, often in remote locations.
  • Collects snowpack information during winter months in remote and difficult to access locations, often in adverse weather conditions.
  • Completes field surveying using engineering levels and GPS units at stream gaging sites and for stream channel geometry surveys.
  • Assists in the installation of stream gaging stations, reference points, and mechanical and electronic equipment under the direction of supervisory personnel.
  • Collects data using paper notes and electronic data collectors and transfers electronic files from field data collectors to office computers.
  • Completes a wide range of paper and computer data entry duties and verifies the accuracy of field data. Assists in the development of streamflow discharge records including rating curves and rating tables and other records information. Assists the Chief of Field Operations with the first-level review of data analysis.
  • Maintains field equipment for assigned stream gages in good working order. Maintains office records and files for assigned stream gages in organized format.
  • Continuously updates office records to maintain and publish streamflow records through the year.
  • Operates Water Resources Program vehicles and assures vehicles are maintained in good working condition.
  • Operates Water Resources Program snowmobiles to assist in snowpack information collection during the winter months.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION):

 

  • Must possess two years of college education or one year of college with a physical science background, or a high school diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in Natural Resources data collection.
  • Must possess a valid Montana driver’s license.
  • Must wear Tribal Government identification and safety apparel when conducting field activities.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS (AS DETERMINED BY THE INTERVIEW):
