TITLE:                                   Spirit Soar Psychiatric Provider

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy. The successful applicant, if not already employed by the Tribes must pass a pre-hire drug test and serve a mandatory six (6) month probationary period. 

 

  • Serves as a Psychiatric Provider in the Tribal Health Department Clinic(s) in Ronan, St. Ignatius, Polson, Elmo, & Arlee, providing scope within their licensure either as a psychiatrist (MD) or psychiatric nurse practitioner. Psychiatric Provider assesses and diagnoses patients, provides limited psychotherapy, and prescribes medication. They treat patients with diagnosed disorders, as well as those with family histories or other factors that increase the likelihood of potential mental illness. The Provider must have the competencies and skill for assessing physical and psychosocial health and/or illness status of patients.
  • Conducts initial and periodic health histories and examinations on individual patients with acute and chronic illnesses, and for preventive medical care; ordering of appropriate diagnostic tests; making medical diagnosis based on these histories, exams and diagnostic tests; implementing and prescribing of medications and treatments within the relevant clinical training. Refers to physician or specialists when appropriate; provides follow-up care with patients and their families.  As appropriate to primary care, will assist in the coordination of medical care.  May occasionally care for patients at home as approved.
  • Will refer patients and their families to Tribal Health Coordinated Care Health Team for continued care follow-up as appropriate.
  • Records patient-provider transactions in the electronic medical record and completes the required data collection instruments, referrals, and medical records as required.
  • Participates in assigned THD staff meetings to develop new, modify existing, and evaluate medical procedures and processes relative to assurance of quality patient care.
  • Provide adult psychiatric and medication evaluations, prescription services and medication education through routine medication clinics.
  • Work closely with the medical providers, behavioral health team and the pharmacy team to track adherence and client’s response to psychiatric medications.
  • Provide support for Primary Care Providers, other medical staff, and Behavioral Health team to assure that the mental and behavioral health needs of the primary care population are addressed, including consultation and direct patient care.
  • Support and consultation for PCPs to provide routine medication initiation and management, but it may be preferable for the psychiatrist/APRN to initiate medication and either treat to target or support PCP continuation of medication, either directly or by supervision of care management.

  • Position will be expected to assist with Tribal Health’s ongoing substance abuse treatments with their expertise and potential to manage a panel of patients with substance use disorder who often require treatment with medications such as buprenorphine/naloxone, or naltrexone. Will be part of a treatment team to help patients with recovery.

MINIMUM RECRUITING QUALIFICATIONS AS REFLECTED ON TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION:

 

The Incumbent must possess a specialized knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of Psychiatric Mental Health obtained through the successful completed course of study as a psychiatrist MD or P.M.H.N.P.  The incumbent must have a through working knowledge within their scope primary care and mental health, to treat a majority of patients.

  • Preferred experience in working within Integrated Behavioral Health, Primary Care Mental/Behavioral Health Integration, or similar collaborative care model. Ability and willingness to train in collaborative care model if prior experience does not already apply.
  • Licensed as a practicing Psychiatrist OR Board of nursing certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must be currently licensed (and in good standing) to practice as a Psychiatric

            Practitioner in the United States and Montana.

  • Have a current DEA license to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Must have DEA MAT waiver or ability to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
  • Current ACLS certification is required.
  • Skill and tact and diplomacy while working in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and traditional native cultures.
  • Ability to participate in activities and functions required which assures compliance with AAAHC or other accreditation organization standards.
  • Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s license

  2. Copy of academic transcripts, certifications, Practice licensure, etc.
  3. Copy of driver’s license.
  4. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if not from CSKT.
  5. If claiming veteran’s preference, a copy of the DD214 must be submitted.
