Tribal Council

 

  • Chairman McDonald informed council the questions for the three finalists for the Mission Valley Power General Manager position will be given out today and their responses will be due back tomorrow. Tom proposed the council obtain a recommendation from the Utility Board after the responses are submitted and then take action on Thursday.

 

  • Martin Charlo informed council he attended yesterday’s Juneteenth event that was hosted by the Missoula Black Collective. It was a good event. Martin did a welcome and land acknowledgment and gave a brief history of the area.

 

  • Martin Charlo informed council that he participated in the Mika Matters Walk last Thursday. He commended Mr. Lapotka for coming outside and speaking to the family. It was a good awareness event for the community. Chairman McDonald saw the local news coverage of the event.

 

Natural Resources Department

 

  • Council approved by resolution the purchase of a portion of the Mark Thompson allotment containing 19.28 acres, referred to as the “Thompson (Calowahcan) Parcel” to be purchased with Bonneville Power Administration resident fish mitigation funds.

 

Tribal Forestry

 

  • Council granted the Rocky Mountain Research Station a revocable permit to research 10 plots for their forest inventory collection.

                    

Tribal Education Department

 

  • Council approved by resolution the submission of a grant application to the United States Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education Office of Indian Education for funding up to $500,000 per year for up to 5 years. The funding will be used for recruiting and retaining Native American teachers and provide incentives with a stipend and a network of support for teachers.

 

Tribal Member

 

  • Kenny Old Person informed council that his grandson is an enrolled tribal member, but he did not receive the $2,000 COVID payment. His son’s grandmother talked to the staff to find out what was going on, but nothing was resolved. Kenny wanted to know why his grandson did not receive the COVID payment. Greg Spahr, Financial Management, will follow up.
