Redhorn Fire Update

Location: 7 air miles northeast of St. Ignatius, Montana in Tribal Mission Mountain Wilderness within the Grizzly Bear Management Zone.

Personnel: 0

Incident Command: Local Type 3 organization

 

Evacuations and Closures: There are no evacuations and closures associated with the fire at this time, although the area is closed to recreation due to grizzly bear habitat from July 15 to October 1 yearly. 

No structures are threatened.

Current and Planned ActivityThe lightning caused fire is burning in heavy forest fuels and in steep rough terrain.  Fire activity can be expected to increase this week, as it will be hot and dry in the afternoons and high winds are forecasted throughout the week.  CS&KT Division of Fire staff will actively monitor and assess fire growth and look for suppression opportunities, point source protection as needed.

Weather Outlook: Mostly sunny with the temperatures in the upper 80’s.  A red flag warning is in effect again today due to steady winds with gusts up to 35 miles per hour and low relative humidity.  Winds will be out of the west.
