Redhorn Fire Update for August 9, 2022

Location: 7 air miles northeast of St. Ignatius, Montana in Tribal Mission Mountain Wilderness within the Grizzly Bear Management Zone.

Incident Command: Local Type 3 organization, Art Trahan, Incident Commander.

 

Evacuations and Closures: There are no evacuations at this time.  McDonald Lake is closed for recreation and the area south of McDonald Lake is closed to recreation due to grizzly bear habitat from July 15 to October 1 yearly. 

No structures are threatened.

Current and Planned ActivityHand crews are continuing constructing a fuel break above the canal along the buffer zone.  The fire is adding more resources as the days go by to help with the fuel break.  Helicopters, Super Scoopers, and S.E.A.T.s will be doing water drops throughout the day, along the perimeter of the fire, focused on slowing downhill movement of the fire. 

Weather Outlook: Critical fire weather conditions today. Hot and dry with breezy south to north winds with low relative humidities. Partly cloudy with haze. Temp- 85-100 valleys and 75-80 ridges. RH’s- 12-17 valleys and 13-23 ridge tops. Wind- 7 mph in the valleys with shifting winds southeast 5-10 mph becoming south in late and early afternoon, and becoming northwest 5 mph in late afternoon.

 

There will be a community meeting Wednesday, August 10 at 7pm at the St. Ignatius Fitness Center.
